Fernandito Ferrer !!! - Acoustic - Indie - Latin

Singer, songwriter Fernandito Ferrer is a charming, genuinely warm artist whose passion for music is so clearly evident in his performances. The boundary between the guitar and his person disappear and you just hear this incredibly moving music emanating into the atmosphere.

Fernando Antonio Ferrer Cruz has been a young pioneer among the new breed of singer-songwriters in Puerto Rico. He first appeared on stage in Lares '97 and from then on has gotten himself known all around the Island and abroad. Originally from San German, Ferrer draws from the Nueva Trova giants of the '70s but has also developed his own language within his work. His percussive guitar technique and impressive vocal abilities together with the good use of subtle yet powerful melody and poetic imagery puts this small-towner's music in a much wider context.

His style is best compared to the works of Tracy Chapman, Annie D'Franco, Antonio Caban Vale, Silvio Rodriguez and Nick Drake. In January '02 he published his self-produced dedut album "Despues de Tanto Tiempo" recorded in Santo Domingo. In it he merged his prior influences as a drummer, his love for jazz and his passion for folk music from around the globe. The end result is a soothing sound that although undeniably Latin overcomes all territorial boundaries. Since then he has appeared in several festivals and recordings in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Cuba, the United States and Mexico.

With so many talented singer/songwriters out there we've decided to bring you a few at a time. Thus, come get a taste of their gifts and enjoy their sounds collectively and individually. CDs will be available so you can take them home with you.

Emma Weiss is a singer/songwriter from Northeast CT. Emma's music and guitar style are un-conventional. Finding inspiration for song through open tunings, and playing with multiple guitars makes Emma an act to reckon with! Krizta Moon has been performing and recording throughout the Northeast for the past 12 years. Her personality is charismatic and her jovial energy has captivated audiences of all ages. Krizta's influences spin through a prism spectrum of artists that makes it difficult to nail her kite tails down. Some call it Folk, others call it Familiar, either way it moves people, draws them in and keeps their attention. Krizta's voice has been described as sultry sweet with dreamy grit. Moon is a songwriter accompanying herself on acoustic guitar. Her songs elicit mystical warmth and devious charm.

Positivity - A Hip Hop Celebration

Producer - Connectbeats
Artists - Elvee, Viso, DJ Berk and N.E.B.

An event celebrating hip-hop and the positive elements of the genre, which are often overshadowed by negative hip-hop or rap. Connectbeats brings a level of conscious hip-hop to the stage; bringing awareness to the world of the everyday struggle of Americans in the streets. This struggle is heard and conveyed through the piece "hood," which explains and communicates the issues minorities deal with while struggling to survive on the streets daily. Furthermore, there is a message in several of the pieces performed most notably "Stupidity," which seeks to get the ear of the street corner drug dealer who refuses to think before he/she acts. In addition to the message, there is also an attempt to bring back performance to hip-hop. Performance was lost when the invention and progression of digital music and media players such as CD's, DATs and MP3 players replaced musicians. Consequently, hip-hop performances became boring; more about the glitter and gold and less and less about art. This happened when the rapper became the focus of hip hop and left the DJ and the band behind. We try to bring this element back; all the songs are performed via turntablist ( DJ acting as a musician) and live instruments creating the feel of the old school party jams. With the combination of all these elements we bring you POSITIVITY!

Brooks Williams and Gail Wade....AN EVENING OF AMERICAN ROOTS MUSIC

Gail has been performing publicly since the early 1980s. Her first musical experience came while living in Brunswick, ME. Gail has appeared on stages both as a solo musician and, most recently, as a member of the former CT-based band, "The Hot Flashes". During the past twenty-plus years Gail has gained the respect of audiences throughout the USA, Ireland and several other European countries. A strong guitarist with a rich and soulful voice, Gail brings forth fresh renditions of folk, blues, Bluegrass and swing favorites. Though steeped in the roots of American music, her diverse array of influences enable Gail to handle the transition from one musical genre to the next, with a fluidity that will foster a true appreciation of her talent.

Brooks Williams is a stunningly soulful and blues-soaked guitarist. His musical vision encompasses blues fingerpicking, swinging slide, and rootsy flatpicking, and manifests itself in a hybrid of funky chords, walking bass lines, and fiery leads. With influences as diverse as John Fahey, Michael Bloomfield, and Joseph Spence, it is pleasantly difficult to pin Williams down. He's a guitarist, a songwriter, and an interpreter. For example, Williams, a signature guitar riffs can be heard in between news segments on National Public Radio in the United States, his song Forget About Him is a mainstay on XM Radio, and his cover of the Blind Boy Fuller classic Weeping Willow Blues regularly brings audiences to their feet. Brooks Williams is also one of the most entertaining and engaging performers on the circuit today. His concerts are legendary: a constantly evolving mix of blues, originals, ballads, and instrumentals, presented in a fresh and personable way. More than one audience member has been heard to muse about a Brooks Williams concert: Now there's a musician who loves his work! From coast-to-coast, country-to-country, Williams and his guitars roll and tumble like nobodys business. Visit the artist at www.brookswilliams.com

AMERANOUCHE - Gypsy Jazz

An elegant, intense mixture of acoustic Gypsy jazz. It's a delightful blend of European and American music inspired by Django Reinhardt.

Ameranouche is an award-winning, nationally-touring, acoustic trio featuring Richard "Shepp" Sheppard on solo guitar, Ryan Flaherty on rhythm guitar, and Xar Adelberg on double bass.

The nationally acclaimed Gypsy Jazz ensemble plays acoustic hot jazz, both original compositions and unique arrangements by American and Gypsy songwriters. The music is universal and reaches diverse audiences worldwide.

Richard Sheppard plays lead guitar for Ameranouche: "His fingers dart across the strings faster then hummingbirds wings" -proclaims Jon Nolan of the Wire Seacoast Entertainment Magazine. "Sheppard is an aggressor on the guitar, really taking it to its limits. Many of the tunes showcase his ability to make that guitar talk. He forcibly makes the strings resonate, and then he dances across the entirety of the fret board in order to get Ameranouche's gypsy jazz sound" writes Christopher Hislop of the Portsmouth Herald.

Ameranouche performances are patterned with virtuosity, eclecticism and inspiring energy. Audiences are taken aback by Sheppard's brilliant guitar work and the groups ceaseless musicianship.

Ameranouche is the first Gypsy jazz group ever to play at the JVC Newport Jazz Festival.

LEARN HOW TO PLAY GYPSY JAZZ!!!!

Ameranouche will host a Gypsy jazz WORKSHOP earlier in this day (time and cost TBD- let us know if you are interested), for instrumentalists of all levels, guitarists, bassists, beginners, experts, curious non-instrumentalists, and anyone else interested in the art and science of Gypsy jazz. We'll discuss the stylistic features that characterize this culturally-diverse music, how to approach them harmonically and how to navigate their implementation. In other words, we'll get aimed for the next level, no matter where you're starting from. If you play (or want to), definitely bring your instrument!
