North End Arts Rising, Inc. (NEAR) is a nonprofit arts organization located in the Historic North End Arts District of Middletown. Known as The Buttonwood Tree (TBT), we serve the community by providing unique arts programming in the areas of visual art, music, poetry, dance, film and more. We offer the community space for private functions and community gatherings.
We have a bookstore with a collection of rare and old finds with a small coffee/tea concession. Our performance gallery space holds about 50 patrons. We offer a delightful space with fantastic acoustics. Many musicians say this is one of their favorite rooms to play. The atmosphere is intimate, cozy, casual and unique. Casual seating is available in the bookstore during events, which is convenient for folks with children.
We generally ask for a door fee of $10, with an overall range of $5-$20 for events. These door donations are then split between NEAR and the Artists. Artists keep 100% of all merchandise sales. For shows with opening performers, or Double Bill shows these ratios may be different.
We do not turn anyone away for his or her inability to pay. This is part of the philosophy we preserve that our founders have based this community arts and cultural center on. We also offer the convenience of reserving seats – done through our website. We are grateful for any contributions of cds which we sell here and will help to further get your music out.
We provide printed and online calendars to our patron list and send press releases to newspapers and radio stations. We will supply you with a list of radio stations that are in our area if you wish to contact them directly with your cds /promotional information and/or to arrange for an interview. This has proven to be a big help toward gathering an audience, especially for touring artists.
