“A Woman’s Work” A collection of art quilts and photographs by Lynn C Fisher

by annemarie

OUR FEBRUARY ARTIST:   LYNN C. FISHER

Artist’s Statement:

Artist: One, such as a painter, sculptor, or writer, who is able by virtue of imagination and talent or skill to create works of aesthetic value, especially in the fine arts. (yourdictionary.com)

HMMM, not a painter, sculptor or writer…

What I am is a woman who likes to sew, work with tools and take photographs.  My art quilts combine all of these talents using both traditional and modern quilting techniques; they represent a part of me that is deeply rooted in history.  The photographs chosen for this show are portraits of women; different ages, different activities, part of the complex tapestry of life, all connected by the simple fact that I’ve found them in front of the lens of my camera at one time or another.

KIDS ARTS Program 2011 – “The Big Reveal”!!

by annemarie

What a year this was for the kids in KIDS ARTS !  We had dance, art, music and writing all to get creative with, and they really were creative! We were able to have 4 teachers who were highly skilled in their respective classes, and they all worked together beautifully! Our theme this year was UNITY, and they sure did a fine job coming together to produce an outstanding camp for these children!

We run this 5 week camp along with Oddfellows as they run their Circus camp, all sponsored by the Middletown Commission on the Arts. For children ages 6 to 14, it’s a great opportunity to have fun in the summer while learning new skills and developing their artistic abilities. (Sign ups start early through the Park and Rec office, and space is limited, so next year plan for it – and look for it around March.)

This year we had the most incredible counselors who helped our fantastic teachers!  We give kudos and our deepest appreciation to this year’s staff:

Teachers: Troubadour: Lauren Agnelli (newspaper) and Margie Warner (music)

Art Moves: Annie Grenier (art) and Patrick Hayes (dance)

Counselors: Lily Smith, Paul D’Antonio, Mark Adamiak & Tyler Sheil

Volunteers: Erin St. Pierre (administration),  Darrell Lucas (videography), Christopher Jankowski, KLJ and LaLa (musicians for The Big Reveal)

Our Sponsors: MIDDLETOWN COMMISSION ON THE ARTS, MacDonough School

Supporting businesses:

Brew Bakers, Fusion Bakery, The Coffeehouse Recording Studio, It’s Only Natural Restaurant, It’s Only Natural Market, O’Rourke’s Diner, Pedal Power, The Green Dahlia,  Illiano’s Restaurant & O’Rourke’s Diner.

THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU!  Your support is vital!  We can’t do this without you!  :-)

“THE BIG REVEAL”   – watch the kids perform!  August 3, 2011   Thank you for the video, Darrell!
